Peru's agricultural product exports grow with nearly 22% making agricultural export the largest job provider in Peru!

Peru's agri exports are expected to reach 10 billion USD by 2021

Peru heads the region in terms of export growth. With a whopping 21.7% between September 2016 and August this year surpassing the growth rates achieved by its neighbors in the region according to the central reserve bank of Peru (BCR).

Statistics released by the World Trade Organization (WTO) show that the increase in export and foreign sales of Peruvian products was 10.3% higher than the regions average. The entire region has benefitted from increased exports with Colombia (15.6%), Ecuador (14.1%), Brazil (11.4%), Chile (9%) and Argentina (2.6%) following Peru’s suit.

Agricultural product exports are expected to reach 6 billion USD in 2017. Flagship products such as mango, avocado, quinoa, cacao, maca and asparagus are leading the way to put Peru on the map as a leading producer and exporter of fine agricultural products.

Peru fine cacao productionMinAgri, Peru’s ministry of Agriculture, stated that Peru is on its way to accomplish its goal of an export volume of 10 billion USD per year in agricultural products by the year of 2021.

Head of the National Agrarian Health Service (SENASA), José Hern´ndez states “By 2021, Peru intends to surpass 10 billion dollars in agricultural exports by expanding agricultural borders through the promotion of new products and opening of new markets. A great challenge for Senasa”.

Peru’s exporter’s association ADEX states that agricultural exports (agriculture and agri value added industry) have generated nearly 1 million jobs directly, an increase of 3% compared to previous year. This makes agriculture export the largest job provider in Peru.
